Filled with seasonal blooms, exotic plants and rare species with gentle footpaths that meander through the variety of habitats, Glenwhan Gardens are a unique and lovely place. Described as one of the best newly created gardens in recent times the story of Glenwhan’s development is certainly inspiring.

Thirty years ago there was nothing but bracken, gorse and the odd willow here but careful planting has created a 12 acre garden, filled with glorious collections of plants from around the world. Glenwhan Gardens focus around several small lakes where the plants luxuriate in a variety of habitats.

Considerate planting has infused the garden with colour throughout the season, beautiful banks of azaleas and rhododendrons dazzle in Spring, rare gems and southern hemisphere plants can be enjoyed in Summer with the season ending with a flourish of hydrangeas. Winding paths, well placed seats, sculptures and water all add to the tranquil atmosphere of Glenwhan. A new tree trail has been collated for the Dendrologist where over 130 trees have been identified

A new 17 acre Wildflower Walk has been created with mown grass paths and there are over 120 recorded species of flowers, grasses and ferns to discover. The bluebells are a wonderful sight on this rare piece of undisturbed Moorland

South facing and 300 ft above sea level, Glenwhan Gardens offer magnificent views over Luce Bay, the Mull of Galloway and the Isle of Man, a perfect backdrop for this garden gem.
